I was very, very sorry to hear about this loss. My deepest sympathies go out to Gigi’s friends and family, to her UNO students and colleagues, and to all the members of the Oxbow Writing Project.
I was just reading back through some emails from Gigi and remembering her boundless energy as the Oxbow was getting started. The last time I saw her was on the Renegade Writing Marathon during NWP/NCTE at Disneyworld. We ended the evening at Gloria Estefan’s gorgeous club, Bongos, outside under the palm trees and neon listening to salsa and talking about dancing and writing.
She had an amazing and generous spirit and a deep commitment to teachers, to writing, to the mission of the Writing Project, to language, and to life. I feel fortunate that I was able to know her and work with her. She will be missed!
